DePaul University seeks a Vice President for Mission and Ministry to enable and sustain its vision, its Catholic identity, and its Vincentian mission. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and engaging professional with a passion for the university’s mission, vision and values. Importantly, the candidate will have experience in leading and cultivating programs, processes and practices that promote DePaul’s position as a highly diverse and inclusive institution steeped in the heritage of its namesake, Vincent de Paul.

 

Founded in 1898 by the Congregation of the Mission, a religious community commonly known as the Vincentians, DePaul is the nation’s largest Catholic university and the fourteenth largest private university in the nation. It is a mission-driven and student-centered institution. Its ten schools and colleges, operating on two urban campuses and in two international locations, offer more than 300 undergraduate and graduate programs. Many of these programs are nationally ranked. The university employs more than 900 full-time faculty and 1,400 full-time staff to serve more than 22,000 diverse full- and part-time students, many of whom are first-generation college attendees.

 

Reporting directly to the President of the university, and as a member of the president’s cabinet, the Vice President for Mission and Ministry heads the Division of Mission and Ministry and serves as the institution’s Chief Mission Officer. Because of the unique nature of this position’s responsibilities, the Vice President must be a Catholic whose own faith, and the expression of that faith, aligns with the university’s identity, mission and values as an inclusive and highly diverse Catholic and Vincentian institution. The Vice President must possess at least a Master’s of Divinity, Theology or Religious Studies, and have a minimum of 10 years of leadership experience, with experience in higher education preferred. S/he will be a person of extraordinary integrity and moral character who communicates in a decisive, transparent, and collaborative manner. S/he will have experience in hiring, developing, and retaining a diverse staff. The ideal candidate will have the requisite knowledge to support teaching, research and service that nurture the Catholic, Vincentian identity of the university. The ideal candidate will also have experience in successfully developing and executing strategies to engage constituents in advancing institutional vision, identity and mission.
