PROVOST AND VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

Radford University, ranked as one of U.S. News & World Report’s “Top Public Schools – Regional Universities South,” announces a nationwide search for its next Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.  The Provost is the chief academic officer who is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and administration of the Division of Academic Affairs and oversees implementation of the academic components of the strategic plan.  

 

Founded in 1910, Radford University is located in the New River Valley approximately 35 miles southwest of Roanoke, Virginia in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  With a main campus in Radford, Virginia and a health sciences-focused educational site in Roanoke, Virginia, the University enrolls approximately 11,000 students, employs nearly 1,500 faculty and staff and has an annual budget of nearly $250 million.  The University also features a robust competency-based education program in various disciplines and an NCAA Division I athletics program competing in the Big South Conference.

 

Reporting directly to the President, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer of Radford University who is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and administration of the Division of Academic Affairs and oversees implementation of the academic components of the strategic plan. This professional plays a role in fundraising and represents the University with various external groups and state agencies.  Reporting to this position are the deans of the seven colleges and the library, as well as several associate/assistant provosts, executive directors and directors.

 

The ideal candidate for this role will be student-centered and have a passion for educating and preparing students for successful careers and lives.  It is expected that the Provost will have a collaborative management style and will effectively work in a transparent manner with internal and external stakeholders.  The Provost is expected to be fully engaged in the everyday life of the campus community and should be approachable and receptive to the ideas of others. A consummate team player, the Provost will be dedicated to the principles of shared governance.  The Provost should have an appreciation for Radford’s world-class faculty who are highly-regard for their teaching excellence and scholarly work, as well as their integration of students in hands-on learning and research projects.  Exemplary communication skills, unquestioned integrity and finely-honed interpersonal skills are all attributes Radford University is seeking in candidates.
