Primary Responsibilities

The successful candidates for both open positions will teach in general areas and must also engage in an active research agenda within the field of criminal justice, criminology, or sociology.  Each candidate will also teach the equivalent of a 12 hour course load per semester and be expected to participate in advising, committee work, public service, and the presentation of research at professional organization conferences.

The successful candidate for the first position will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: the justice system’s response to social issues; victimology; GIS and crime mapping; emerging trends in the justice system (including, but not limited to, bioterrorism, wildlife trade, and/or human trafficking). A quantitative orientation is also desired.  This position is slated to start in January 2020.

The successful candidate for the second position will have expertise in one or more the following areas: law and courts; social control; procedural justice; restorative justice; theories of crime.  This position is slated to start in August 2020.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or ABD (with Ph.D.) in criminology, criminal justice, sociology, or directly related field (Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government certified university.)
  • Experience teaching at college/university level as a graduate assistant, instructor, or above
  • Willingness to teach courses through distance learning (experience in teaching courses through distance learning a plus)
  • Demonstrated commitment to a strong research agenda in criminal justice, criminology, or sociology
  • Demonstrated ability to advise or mentor students
  • Evidence of highly effective communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal)
  • Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the university community
  • Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multicultural populations, as well as an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities
