Associate/Full Professor of English and Department Chair of English

The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at North Central College invites candidates at the rank of advanced Associate or Full Professor to serve as Department Chair, beginning August 1, 2020. We seek a literary scholar: the particular area of expertise is open, though a global approach is preferred.

The successful candidate will have an ongoing record of academic achievement, evidence of effective leadership, and commitment to ensuring programs thrive while aligning departmental goals with the College’s strategic plan. The English department has 12 full-time faculty with active scholarly agendas, and a commitment to teaching, undergraduate research and mentoring. The Chair will implement the department’s new curriculum and help design emerging programs while demonstrating teaching excellence.  Candidates will have opportunities to contribute to the College’s new interdisciplinary general education program as well as other interdisciplinary majors and minors.

Founded in 1861, North Central College is a selective, comprehensive liberal arts institution of about located 28 miles west of Chicago in Naperville. The College is in a period of growth with the addition of a $60 million Science Center opened in March 2017. The Naperville area is home to many excellent school districts and Naperville, IL, has been ranked as one of the best places to live by Money magazine.
