Assistant Budget Director for Financial Planning

Radford University, a thriving, comprehensive public university of nearly 10,000 students located in Radford, Virginia, invites applications for the position of Assistant Budget Director for Financial Planning.  The University is located in the city of Radford (population 15,859), 36 miles southwest of Roanoke, Virginia, on Route 11 and I-81 in the New River Valley, close to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.

Radford seeks an experienced and collaborative professional to provide leadership for all aspects of the University’s financial planning and revenue forecasting.  Reporting to the University Budget Director and working closely with the Vice President for Finance and Administration, the Assistant Budget Director for Financial Planning will be responsible for performing complex budget and financial analysis, revenue forecasting, financial planning and benchmarking, legislative analysis, and report monitoring.

Required qualifications include an advanced degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field, or training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience developing and managing budgets for a large-scale organization. Ability to track, read, interpret, and analyze funding policies and legislation and make recommendations on actions needed to ensure sufficient funding is available to address requirements. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to write in a concise, well-thought out manner. Ability to respond to inquiries from constituents in a professional, timely, and concise manner. Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data and knowledge of automated financial accounting systems and Microsoft Office software. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt to and facilitate change, and to work independently or as part of a team. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in a higher education finance or related field involving budget or financial analysis, familiarity with public policies affecting state colleges and universities, understanding of Virginia’s legislative process, and experience in preparing financial forecasts in large complex organizations utilizing an ERP system such as Banner.
