Adult Hospitalist Opportunities

The University of Iowa Department of Internal Medicine is expanding its hospitalist program for the fourth year in a row and is recruiting part-time and full-time BC/BE physicians for clinical faculty positions that offer a dynamic mix of activities within the Division of General Internal Medicine.  Applications will be accepted for positions at the rank of Associate, no track, or Clinical Assistant Professor, commensurate with experience and training. University of Iowa hospitalists practice in a variety of settings.  Based upon individual’s interest, hospitalists can rotate on resident based teaching teams, attending only teams, transition of care follow up clinic, and virtual hospitalists providing care at distant hospitals at both the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) and the Iowa City VA Medical Center (VAMC). At UIHC, hospitalists can rotate on physician led Advanced Practice Provider (APP) inpatient teams, staff the APP run observation unit, or the resident based surgical co-management services. Additionally, general medicine hospitalists can rotate on two subspecialty services, the hem-onc service, in collaboration with hematologists, oncologists, and APPs, or the cardiology service, which provides collaborative care with cardiologists and APPs.

Candidates must have a M.D. degree or equivalent.  Applications will be accepted for positions at the rank of Associate, no track, or Clinical Assistant Professor, commensurate with experience and training. These positions are not eligible for J-1 Sponsorship.  Desirable qualifications include:  experience practicing hospitalist medicine, experience teaching medical students or residents, demonstrated interest in scholarly activity, strong oral and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills.

Primary practice sites are the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC), which is consistently recognized as one of the top health care employers by Forbes and has consistently ranked as one of the top 15 medical centers in the U.S. by US News and World Report.
