PRESIDENT

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a strong and visionary leader, who understands the role and challenges of a premier public research institution in the current era. Rutgers is one of the nation’s preeminent, comprehensive public institutions of higher education. It is the sole university in the United States that is a colonial college, a land-grant institution, a public Association of American Universities (AAU) member, and a member of the Big Ten Academic Alliance and of the Big Ten Athletic Conference.

Founded as Queen’s College in 1766, Rutgers is the nation’s eighth-oldest institution of higher education. Today the University enrolls more than 70,000 students (over 50,000 undergraduates and approximately 20,000 graduate students) on three principal campuses and at locations across New Jersey and around the world. It employs more than 8,500 full and part-time faculty members and almost 15,000 staff. Its 29 schools and colleges offer more than 150 undergraduate majors and over 400 graduate programs. Rutgers has nearly 300 research centers and annual R & D expenditures of over $736 million. Rutgers Health and its partners form one of the ten largest academic health care systems in the U.S., logging 2.1 million patient visits annually. Rutgers’ FY 2020 approved annual operating budget is nearly $4.6 billion.

The President reports directly to the Rutgers Board of Governors, and is the chief executive officer of the University. We expect the next President to be a distinguished scholar, a demonstrably effective administrator, and an accomplished fundraiser. The ideal candidate will have a passion for preparing a diverse student body for productive and fulfilling futures, will be deeply committed to promoting research that improves people’s lives and enhances our understanding of cultures and the natural world, will have the ability to enhance the Rutgers brand in appropriate ways, and will understand the importance of fostering diversity in all aspects of university life and operations.  [Additional information about the position may be found at http://presidentialsearch.rutgers.edu/].

While applications and nominations will be accepted until a new President is hired, interested parties are encouraged to submit their materials to our consultant at the address below by November 15th to ensure optimal consideration.  Application materials should include a current resume/curriculum vitae and a letter of interest. It is the intention of the Search Committee to maintain the confidentiality of all candidates.
