Assistant Professor in Assyriology and Cuneiform Studies

The Department of Near Eastern Languages & Cultures at the University of California, Los Angeles, announces a search for a tenure-track position in Assyriology and Cuneiform Studies with interests that engage broader cultural and intellectual traditions, are transdisciplinary in scope, and grounded in philological expertise. The position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor to be filled effective July 1, 2020. Applications are invited from all scholars with research and teaching interests in Akkadian language and literature. Candidates will teach (or develop) a variety of classes including general education courses as well as graduate seminars in Akkadian language and literature. Research interests in the ancient Mesopotamian world should include interaction with several of the following areas: empire and society (economies, social identity, and migration); religions; and ancient sciences and medicine. Candidates should be able to contribute to Digital Humanities and the Cuneiform Digital Library Initiative (A joint project of the University of California, Los Angeles, the University of Oxford, and the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin).
