The Institute of French Studies (IFS) and the Department of History at New York University invite applications for a position in Modern French History at the rank of Associate Professor, beginning September 1, 2020. We are seeking to hire a historian of the twentieth century whose research considers France’s connections with other parts of the world and ideally explores questions of gender and sexuality. Given the interdisciplinary and bilingual nature of the Institute of French Studies, the successful candidate should be able to mentor students and converse with scholarship in anthropology, sociology, or literature; excellent oral command of French is expected in addition to English. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the collective editorship of the IFS’s bilingual journal French Politics, Culture, and Society. We are especially interested in candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to working with women and under-represented minority students through teaching, mentoring, or administration.
