Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President, Financial & Institutional Services/Chief Financial Officer (VP/CFO).

Maine Maritime Academy, founded in 1941, is a public, co-educational college located in the beautiful coastal town of Castine, Maine. There are close to 1,000 students in courses of study in engineering, management, science, and transportation.  The Academy prides itself on the opportunities students have to gain hands-on experience, including time aboard a 500ft training ship, among others. The rigorous courses and experiential programs equip traditional and regimented students with the practical skills, knowledge, and training to launch successful careers upon completion of an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree. Maine Maritime Academy holds the #4 position in US News and World Report’s Regional Colleges North and ranks #1 in Best Colleges for Veterans.  Additionally, the Academy was recognized in 2018-2019 by Colleges of Distinction for leading practices in its engineering and business programs. The college’s retention and graduation rates are well above national averages. In 2018, the job-placement rate for MMA graduates was in excess of 90 percent within 90 days of graduation and in 2019, over two-thirds of graduates obtained a US Coast Guard license.

The Vice President, Financial & Institutional Services/ Chief Financial Officer provides leadership, management and oversight of all activities within the division of financial and institutional services. The VP/CFO reports to the president, serves as a key member of his leadership team and provides advice and counsel on all administrative, financial, business, human resources, information technology, and facilities matters affecting the Academy. The VP/CFO is a principled leader who can add insight and identify opportunities in the conversation about education in today's competitive landscape and MMA’s unique setting. The VP/CFO partners with faculty, staff, students, and leadership to ensure the Academy’s continued strength and wise stewardship of resources. S/he serves as the liaison to the State of Maine budget and financial affairs offices.

The preferred candidate will possess the education, training, experience, and skills necessary to thrive with the following responsibility areas under their direction: audit; risk assessment and management; strategic planning; contract administration; personnel management, including a represented workforce; competitive procurement; internal controls; capital construction; deferred maintenance of the physical plant; financial implications of auxiliary enterprises; and all other tasks common to the position of a college VP/CFO.
