Associate Vice Chancellor for Graduate Studies

The Associate Vice Chancellor for Graduate Studies reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and is expected to provide effective and impactful leadership for Graduate Studies and the Office of Grants and Research.

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Provide campus leadership in all matters pertaining to graduate education as well as faculty research and scholarship.
  • Provide leadership for the Office of Graduate Studies and the Office of Grants and Research, including but not limited to matters of strategic prioritization, budgeting, and staffing.
  • Provide direct oversight for staff within the Office of Graduate Studies and the Office of Grants and Research.
  • Collaborate with graduate program chairs to develop, manage, and maintain efficient and integrated operating procedures for all graduate programs.
  • Collaborate with deans and chairs to assure high quality graduate programming.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of the University Accreditation and Assessment Council and convene and serve as an ex-officio member of the Graduate Academic Affairs Council.
  • Collaborate with deans, chairs, enrollment services, and marketing to develop general and program-specific strategic enrollment and marketing plans.
  • Provide oversight to ensure the quality of the Graduate Studies and Office of Grants and Research websites and related publications.
  • Collaborate with deans, chairs, faculty, and staff to identify opportunities for new graduate program development and graduate programming breadth.
  • In collaboration with the Registrar, maintain the quality and accuracy of the Graduate Catalog.
  • In collaboration with enrollment services, oversee graduate student admission, academic progress, academic disciplinary matters, and degree completion.
  • Convene Graduate Joint-Chair meetings.
  • Upon the recommendation of graduate program executive committees, manage and award graduate student assistantships.
  • Identify and nurture external partnerships to advance scholarship and research opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Grants and Research, the Controller's Office, the Provost Office, faculty, and staff to develop, manage, and maintain efficient and integrated operating procedures for all pre-award and post-award extramural granting.
  • Oversee the Office of Grants and Research efforts to develop and implement professional development opportunities for faculty, staff, and students for matters pertaining to research and extramural funding.
  • In collaboration with deans, chairs, faculty, staff, and marketing, develop and implement mechanisms for the effective communication of campus scholarly achievements to internal and external audiences.
  • Oversee the Office of Grants and Research collaborative activities with the Research Council.
  • Serve as the Provost´s designee on all matters pertaining to WiSys, as well as the Institutional Research Board, Institutional Biosafety Committee, and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
  • Oversee the institution´s annual participation in the UW-System Research in the Rotunda.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to the Provost on budgetary matters relevant to Graduate Studies and the Office of Grants and Research.
  • Maintain a record of active scholarship.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned doctorate at time of application
  • Tenured appointment as an associate or full professor
  • Three years of successful higher education administrative experience, including responsibility for personnel and/or budgets
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in graduate program administration
  • Experience in grants administration and/or planning and budget preparation
  • Experience in high impact instructional practices

Position is a full-time Limited appointment.  Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s).  A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s).  In compliance with the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, the university does not discriminate on the basis of arrest or conviction record.
