The Search

The University of Maryland College Park (UMD) seeks an innovative and accomplished Associate Vice President for Finance & Operations (AVP) who is responsible for providing leadership, management, and strategic direction to the Division of University Relations (UR). The AVP will manage five key departments: Finance, Business Applications, Gift Acceptance, Human Resources, and IT Services and develop a coherent and integrated strategy for these five functions to operate in tandem and cooperatively to serve the needs of the division and campus, as well as respond to the substantial demands from internal and external constituents and stakeholders.

As a member of the Vice President’s Senior Staff, the AVP will formulate a strategic financial plan, including a multi-year budget, and oversee all financial activities. This individual plays an integral role in developing and executing all business and entrepreneurial ventures for University Relations. The AVP will oversee business processes and improvements, including internal policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with strategic goals, operational excellence, efficiency, consistency and compliance across the division. The AVP will represent the division and the Vice President on internal and external committees and boards as well as advise the Vice President on all operational matters in the division.

The AVP will also serve as the Vice President and Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, Inc. A separate 501c3 organization dedicated specifically to the University of Maryland, College Park, the Foundation provides opportunities for alumni, friends, corporations, and charitable foundations to support directly the mission and strategic priorities of the university. As CFO, this individual is responsible for all financial and administrative functions, processes, and controls for the Foundation. he/she will develop, manage, and maintain the Foundation’s annual budget; negotiate and sign Foundation financial and contractual arrangements, including checks and fund transfers; review financial statements; oversee the annual audit process; and negotiate and sign property transfers, trust and annuity contracts.
