LaGuardia Community College's Division of Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) is one of the largest continuing education enterprises in the region and offers innovative education, training and economic development programs and services to over 35,000 individuals and businesses. 

The Assistant Dean, under the direction of the Vice President for Adult and Continuing Education, provides strategic and operational leadership in the development, assessment and delivery of high-quality, innovative business services and entrepreneurship programs that serve the needs of the local community and employers. LaGuardia's Division of Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) is a national leader in community college business services programs and has expanded its business services offerings to include a suite of programs and services (the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, NYDesigns, two procurement centers, and the Small Business Development Center).  The Assistant Dean will be responsible for maintaining and growing existing initiatives, including the Youth Workforce initiatives, and developing new programs that respond to the needs of local small businesses across various sectors. S/he will identify opportunities for the Division to serve local residents and businesses, design programs that will position students for success as they pursue entrepreneurship activities, connect graduates of LaGuardia’s education and training programs to jobs created by small businesses serviced, identify and attract funding opportunities to support these initiatives, and ensure these programs are successfully implemented. 

Essential functions include:

Leadership: 
- Act as a key member of the division's leadership team, advising on the division's direction and representing the division to internal and external stakeholders. 

Strategic planning: 
- Direct the preparation of short- and long-range plans for small business programs in support of the college's goals and objectives, and deploy resources to successfully implement these plans. 

Program design: 
- Develop new programs that are responsive to community and business needs. 
- Monitor trends affecting small businesses, analyze economic and labor market data, and interact with community and local industry representatives and outside agencies to determine needs for existing and additional programs. 

Program implementation: 
- Oversee small business and entrepreneurship initiatives within the division, ensuring they meet service delivery targets. 
- Responsible for formative assessment and evaluation and all outcomes.

Partnership development: 
- (Internal) Collaborate with ACE and academic departments to develop initiatives that can strengthen students' capacity to succeed in workforce development and credit degree programs and become prepared for entrepreneurship opportunities and to connect initiatives to local employers and labor market information. 
- (External) Build coalitions with service providers, industry associations, businesses and elected officials so that small business programs can leverage available expertise and resources.  

Grant writing, development and management:
- Identify and cultivate funding sources that meet the needs of the division, secure external funding to support small business and entrepreneurship programs, provide labor market information and connections to small businesses in support of workforce and pre-college grant submissions, and manage stakeholder relationships, including outcomes reporting to funders. 

Financial Management: 
- Plan, direct, and monitor all fiscal resources within area of direct responsibility. Liaise with Director of Finance on a quarterly basis for routine management and issue resolution. 
- Ensure sufficient resources to support program needs as well as divisional infrastructure.
- Identify, develop, and implement strategic plans for long term revenue growth across programs.
- Ensure proactive management of all awarded budgets and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations 

    QUALIFICATIONS 
    This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree highly preferred.  A minimum of eight years of senior-level leadership.  Proven accomplishment and leadership in business services and entrepreneurship-related activities, including a track record of successfully innovative programs.  Proven track record of grant awards, experience in successful proposal writing, including identifying potential funding opportunities, leading the grant development process and managing staff to successfully write grants.  Excellent ability to work with the private sector, governmental agencies, community and civic organizations.  Exceptional interpersonal skills combined with the self-confidence and sensitivity needed to build consensus for policy and operational changes.  Superior written and verbal communications skills.  Proven experience in managing and directing a diversified work staff, at all levels of the organization and faculty in credit and non-credit programs, in addition to students and other customers.
