LaGuardia Community College's Division of Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) is one of the largest continuing education enterprises in the region, offering innovative education, job training, and workforce and economic development programs and services to over 35,000 individuals and businesses annually.

The Assistant Dean, under the direction of the Vice President of Adult and Continuing Education, provides strategic and operational leadership in the development, assessment and delivery of our innovative and high quality Pre-College Academic Programs. ACE is a national leader in instruction and programming for high school equivalency, ESL, basic skills, at-risk youth, correctional education, professional development for teachers, and non-credit to credit transition. The Assistant Dean will be responsible for maintaining and growing these existing initiatives and developing new programs. He/she will identify opportunities for ACE to serve local residents, businesses and non-profit organizations and will identify and solicit funding opportunities to support these initiatives and ensure these programs are successfully implemented.

Essential responsibilities include:

Leadership: 
- Act as a key member of the ACE Leadership Team, advising on the division's direction and representing ACE to internal and external stakeholders.

Strategic Planning: 
- Direct the preparation of short and long range plans for Pre-College Academic Programs in support of ACE's and the college's goals and objectives, and identify resources to successfully implement these plans.

Program Design: 
- Develop new programs that are responsive to community and business needs. Monitor trends in high school equivalency, ESL and basic skills education. 
- Work collaboratively within ACE and the college to develop and support literacy and ESL contextualized career pathway programs.
- Evaluate existing and new curricula as well as assessment methodologies.

Program Implementation:
- Oversees all Pre-College Academic Programs within ACE, including tuition-based, contract and grant-funded programs.
- Supervises and manages programs including but not limited to the CUNY Fatherhood program, ACE Advisement Services and Community Health Worker that lead students and adult learners into credit programs at the college. Understands and implements the processes that allow these students to transition to degree programs smoothly and works with the college to research student outcomes.
- Supervises program offerings and trouble-shoots correctional education programs.
- Builds on and further develops high school equivalency, ESL, basic skills and professional development programming in areas of technology, e-portfolios, contextualized training and curriculum development through the Professional Development Institute.
- Develops new internationalization and study abroad initiatives.

Partnership Development:
- (Internal) Collaborates with academic departments to develop initiatives that can strengthen students' capacity to succeed in credit degree programs and be better prepared for career mobility. 
- (External) Maintains close relationship with CUNY entities, community based organizations, businesses, elected officials and private funders so that Pre-College Academic Programs can leverage available expertise and resources.

Grant Writing, Development, and Management:
- Identify and cultivate funding sources that meet ACE's needs; secure external funding to support programs; and manage stakeholder relationships, including outcomes and financial reporting to funders.

Financial Management: 
- Plan, direct, and monitor all fiscal resources within area of direct responsibility. 
- Liaise with Director of Finance on a quarterly basis for routine management and issue resolution.
- Ensure sufficient resources to support program needs as well as divisional infrastructure.
- Identify, develop, and implement strategic plans for long term revenue growth across programs.
-  Ensure proactive management of all awarded budgets and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. 

    QUALIFICATIONS 
    This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's Degree highly preferred. Proven accomplishments and leadership in pre-college academic programs, including high school equivalency, ESL, basic skills or related programs, as well as a track record of innovative programs. Demonstrated ability to secure grants, with experience in successful proposal writing; identifying potential funding opportunities; leading the grant process; and managing staff to successfully write grants. Strong skills in fiscal oversight and budgeting of large scale programs. Proven ability to work with college leadership, private sector entities, government agencies, and community and civic organizations. Exceptional interpersonal skills combined with self-confidence and sensitivity needed to build consensus for policy and operational changes. Superior written and verbal communication skills. Proven experience in managing and directing a diversified work staff at all levels of the organization, including faculty in credit and non-credit programs as well as students and other customers. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
