Associate Provost for Diversity and Faculty Development/Chief Diversity Officer

Tulane University

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA

Tulane University, among the nation’s most prestigious and innovative academic institutions, seeks a visionary change agent, intellectual leader, and effective administrator to serve as its inaugural Associate Provost for Diversity and Faculty Development/Chief Diversity Officer (“associate provost”). Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, the associate provost will develop and implement a comprehensive, progressive vision to systematically embed diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts into the core aspects of the institution. The associate provost will also oversee broad-based faculty development. The deliberate integration of DEI efforts with faculty development in this new position further solidifies and facilitates Tulane’s commitment to greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and accountability at every level of university life as an essential element of its scholarly excellence.

Founded in 1834, Tulane offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees across an attractive array of schools: architecture, business, law, liberal arts, medicine, public health and tropical medicine, the sciences and engineering, and social work. Known for its highly collaborative environment, it has developed innovative interdisciplinary research and educational programs that span all of the schools. Tulane has also cultivated an emphasis on community service and practical experience that permeates its programs, culture, and community. With 8,339 undergraduate and 5,110 graduate students, Tulane takes pride in providing hands-on experiences to its students, who take part in research at all levels of the University and provide thousands of hours of public service to the greater New Orleans community.

As member of the Provost’s senior leadership team and a member of the Academic Affairs Council, Administrative Council, and an ex officio member of the Senate Committee on Equal Opportunity and Institutional Equity, the associate provost will oversee the Presidential Commission on Race and Tulane Values. The person will also serve as an advisor, bridge builder, strategic leader, and partner, enabling leaders across the Tulane community to conceptualize and operationalize the University’s inclusion and diversity mission; improve the campus climate; and intentionally engage faculty, students, and staff in dialogue around critical issues. The successful candidate will have relevant experience in the academic community, either in administration or through scholarship, or from work experiences that demonstrate understanding of issues inherent to inclusion and diversity, particularly ways in which they intersect with the academic mission.
