Vice President for Community Colleges (CEO for the Community Colleges System)

Vice President for Community Colleges

(CEO for the Community Colleges System)

Position #89457, Honolulu, Hawai‘i

The University of Hawai‘i seeks a strong and experienced leader to serve as chief executive officer (CEO) of the University of Hawai‘i Community Colleges (UHCC) and an officer of the University of Hawai‘i (UH) System.  The UHCC is a statewide system of seven accredited colleges on the islands of Hawai‘i, Maui, O‘ahu and Kaua‘i, complementing the three four-year university campuses within the University of Hawai‘i System.  The Vice President for Community Colleges (VPCC) has direct supervision of the CEOs (chancellors) of the seven community colleges and reports directly to the UH President.

As the CEO of the UHCC, the VPCC is responsible for all aspects of the UHCC educational mission and operations.  The next leader will ensure continued excellence in providing general, liberal arts, career and technical education and occupational training with a high level of student success as the colleges address workforce development needs across the unique communities within our islands.  Current priorities include development of pathways from high schools into community colleges and on to baccalaureate programs, increasing overall community college enrollment and retention, and increasing student transfers from community colleges to UH universities.  The VPCC also supports two key imperatives embraced within the UH mission:  commitments to become a foremost indigenous-serving institution and to advance sustainability.

The VPCC develops community college systemwide initiatives collaboratively with campus chancellors, faculty, staff and students through a system of shared governance based on values of collegiality, transparency and excellence.  The VPCC fosters a vibrant and inspiring academic climate; supports outstanding teaching, scholarship and innovation; ensures responsible stewardship of the public resources embodied in the UHCC; and cultivates an environment for the community colleges to flourish as a highly valued component of Hawaiʻi’s unique statewide and fully integrated public higher education system.

As an Officer of the UH System, the leader is a vice president and member of the President's senior executive team. In this capacity, the leader works with diverse stakeholders on initiatives that advance and promote the UH system and community colleges system interests for the benefit of the state and beyond.
