Earl S. Johnson Instructor in Political Science

Position Description

The Master of Arts Program in the Social Sciences (MAPSS) at the University of Chicago invites applications for a position as Earl S. Johnson Instructor in Political Science. This is a full-time instructorship, renewable annually to a maximum term of three years, beginning on or after September 1, 2019. The successful applicant will teach four graduate courses in political science, including one or two methods courses; advise MA students; evaluate MA theses; hire and manage teaching assistants; participate in program admissions, staff hiring, and student recruitment; help train our doctoral student preceptors; and contribute to the intellectual life and administrative needs of the program. The position provides advanced training and professional mentorship in program leadership, research, and teaching, and offers exceptional preparation for tenure-track employment.

Qualifications

Prior teaching experience is required. Familiarity with the University of Chicago's faculty and academic resources is desirable. Applicants must have completed all requirements for the PhD in Political Science, including the dissertation defense, by August 31, 2019, and have the PhD in-hand by January 1, 2020.
