Senior Instructional Designer
The University Center for Teaching & Learning is looking for an experienced, talented Senior Instructional Designer who wants to make a difference at Pitt. This is a professional staff position that requires a combination of skills in instructional design, instructional technology, faculty development, and project management.
The Senior Instructional Designer will:
- Consult with faculty about the course design and development of materials for online delivery
- Analyze current online teaching practices and provide recommendations for the improvement of teaching methods/strategies and assessment of student achievement
- Create course development plan as well as selected course materials
- Select appropriate technologies for course development and teaching
- Coordinate staff effort to build online courses including that of instructional designers, multi-media specialists, and videographers
- Coach instructors in effective online teaching practices
- Supervise student workers, interns, and other staff working on projects related to online programs
This is a professional staff position within the University Center for Teaching and Learning that requires a combination of skills in instructional design, instructional technology, faculty development, and project management. The employee must also have strong management experience in order to supervise and mentor staff as well as to oversee the successful completion of projects. A Master’s degree in Instructional Design or the equivalent is required in addition to ten years’ experience in teaching, designing instruction, and/or developing curriculum at the college or university level. A Doctoral degree is preferred.

Master’s Degree in instructional design or a closely related field. Advanced knowledge of learning theory and its application to teaching in higher education. Knowledge of teaching methods/strategies for online and hybrid courses in higher education. Working knowledge of how instructional technologies can be used effectively at the university level. Minimum of ten years of experience in the following areas: working with faculty in a consultative role concerning their teaching, developing and/or revising courses and multimedia, providing instruction on topics related to teaching and learning, and teaching experience in higher education. The employee must have supervisory and project management experience.
