Faculty (Open Rank) and Director of Training PsyD in Counseling Psychology

Position Summary:

The Department of Psychological Science and Counseling at Austin Peay State University seeks an individual to fill a tenured/tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Psychological Science and Counseling and to serve as the Director of Training for a new PsyD program in Counseling Psychology. This program will offer a concentration in Serving Military Personnel, Veterans, and their Families. The hiring rank is open however preference will be given to candidates who meet the department’s requirements to join the department at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

The Department of Psychological Science and Counseling is in the process of establishing a community-based training clinic that will serve as a primary training site for both the PsyD and the M.S. in counseling programs. The program has an anticipated implementation of Fall 2020 and has been approved by the Austin Peay State University Board of Trustees and the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, with approval pending from Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The program will submit a notice of “Intent to Apply” for APA accreditation during the 2019-2020 academic year with a goal of becoming accredited at the earliest possible opportunity.

This position is approved for the 2019-2020 Academic Year with a potential start date as early as August 1, 2019. The search will remain active until the position is filled so interested applicants who may not be available to start until January or August, 2020, are still encouraged to apply.

Austin Peay State University is located in Clarksville, TN, a thriving community located less than 50 miles from Nashville.  Clarksville is a neighbor to Ft. Campbell United States Army Post. APSU maintains a strong relationship with Ft. Campbell and other local agencies that provide services to military personnel, veterans, and their families. Nearly 25% of the student population at APSU is military-connected. As a result, the PsyD program faculty and students will be afforded rich clinical and research opportunities related to serving military and military-connected populations.

Required Qualifications:

  • A doctorate (PsyD or PhD) in Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program along with full-time experience providing instruction in a doctoral program are required.
  • Applicants must hold licensure as a psychologist (HSP) or be license-eligible in TN. If license-eligible, must be fully licensed in TN within 1 year of hire.
  • A background search will be required of the successful applicant.
