Vice President for Communications

Bucknell University

Vice President for Communications

Bucknell University seeks a talented, collegial, and multi-faceted leader to serve as its next Vice President for Communications. The Vice President must be able to shift seamlessly and effectively among a variety of different roles: manager of a 40-person team; collaborative thought partner to colleagues in Enrollment, Advancement, and Athletics and others; trusted advisor to President John Bravman; liaison to the Board of Trustees’ Development and External Relations Committee; heralder of the accomplishments of Bucknell’s talented faculty, staff, and students to both internal and external audiences; and champion of Bucknell’s overarching mission and message on the national and global stages.

Given Bucknell’s unique nature as a 3,600-student national university where the liberal arts and professional programs complement each other, the Vice President must also work flexibly and intelligently across the three colleges – Arts & Sciences, Engineering, and the Kenneth E. Freeman College of Management – in an environment of significant size and complexity. Bucknell has in recent years accomplished many major milestones: adopting the “By Way of Bucknell” branding platform, undertaking a top-to-bottom website redesign, finalizing its new strategic plan, and completing extensive market research re its prospective students. The Vice President will find the stage set for a new and ambitious era, as Bucknell contemplates its next capital campaign, prepares to implement its ambitious plans, and aspires to become even more visible nationally and globally for its unique and significant impact on the world.

Reporting to President John Bravman, the Vice President for Communications will be a source of ideas, inspiration, and expertise for key partners across campus and is broadly responsible for ensuring the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of Bucknell’s communications and marketing efforts. The Vice President for Communications will ideally bring experience working in higher education to the role, as well as a deep understanding of the varied and nuanced relationships among a wide range of individuals, departments, and constituencies.
