Dean of the School of Business

Rutgers University – Camden

Dean of the School of Business

Camden, New Jersey

Rutgers University–Camden seeks a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and collaborative leader for the position of Dean of the School of Business.  One of four campuses of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, Rutgers–Camden is a comprehensive public university offering undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral-level programs to more than 7,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Rutgers–Camden combines the resources of Rutgers, a major national research university, with the smaller, more intimate environment of a mid-sized urban-serving public research institution dedicated to serving the needs of its local and regional community in South Jersey and the greater Delaware Valley.  Since merging with Rutgers in 1950, Rutgers–Camden has seen enormous growth in academic programs, research activity, enrollment, campus life, and student outcomes.  Through its strategic plan, Rutgers–Camden has focused on five strategic directions -- providing a first-rate undergraduate education grounded in research and experiential learning; enhancing high-quality and interdisciplinary graduate and professional programs; advancing faculty research excellence; playing a leadership role in revitalizing Camden and in the greater Delaware Valley; and increasing enrollment to support strategic goals.

The Rutgers–Camden School of Business (RSBC) aims to be a regional leader in business education and a destination school of choice with national and international recognition for excellence in scholarship, teaching, and community partnerships.  Academically, RSBC is organized into four areas (Accounting; Finance; Organizational Behavior, Human Resources, and  Marketing; and MIS and  Operations Management, Strategy, International Business, and Entrepreneurship), each led by an area head, and offers fully accredited undergraduate, master’s, and certificate programs on site in Camden and multiple locations, and online.  In fall 2018, RSBC programs enrolled 1,470 undergraduate and 430 graduate students supported by 51 full-time and 45 part-time faculty and 34 staff. RSBC is accredited by AACSB International and was reaccredited last year.  In 2018, U.S. News & World Report ranked the on-campus MBA program #44 among part-time MBA programs and the online MBA program #82 among online MBA programs.

Reporting to the Chancellor, the Dean is the chief executive and administrative officer of the School.  The Dean provides active leadership in promoting, directing, and supporting educational and research activities of RSBC, in maintaining a high level of collegiality among the faculty and staff, and in encouraging the spirit of learning among the students.  The Dean provides representation and visibility in the community and leadership in identifying and hosting relevant community leaders and activities on campus.  The Dean has general administrative responsibility for the School, including its compliance with accreditation standards, community outreach, fundraising, marketing and enrollment, interdisciplinary initiatives, global outreach, and the effective management of its administrative and financial affairs.  The Dean consults with the faculty in designing the School’s strategic plan and sets the tone for the School in encouraging excellence, recognizing achievement, and supporting appointments and promotions based on merit.  The Dean is responsible for increasing research, growing entrepreneurial activity, creating opportunities for students, and fostering a collaborative spirit in the School.

The University seeks an innovative leader and strategic thinker with a breadth of knowledge and experience across a range of business disciplines.  The Dean will demonstrate a broad understanding of the direction of business education and the ability to articulate a vision that positions the School as a successful enterprise within a complex and growing public research university. The Dean must demonstrate evidence of excellent financial and human resources management; collaborative skills; entrepreneurial and innovative skills in positioning RSBC to take advantage of opportunities; a strong external focus; a track record of successful fundraising; and the ability to work effectively within a diverse and multicultural environment.  The successful candidate will have a record of fostering excellence in research, instruction, and service; a commitment to strengthening the role of research; and dedication to supporting and promoting faculty and student success.  An earned doctorate in business, economics or related field is strongly preferred together with a record of scholarly contribution that merits appointment as a tenured full professor.  Candidates with exceptional experience as successful leaders within complex organizational settings that involve multiple stakeholders will be considered; a background of substantive leadership within a leading business school is preferred.

Screening will begin in July and continue until an appointment is made.  Nominations, inquiries, and applications (including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the names of five references) should be directed electronically to RutgersCamdenBusinessDean@divsearch.com.
