George Mason University, Information Technology Services (ITS) – located on the Fairfax, Va., campus—is seeking a dynamic individual for an Assistant Director, Classroom and Lab Technologies, Classroom Support position within the Learning Support Services, Classroom and Lab Technologies (CaLT), Classroom Support team. Learning Support Services (LSS) fosters and supports the George Mason community in the use of technology for teaching and learning. CaLT a unit of LSS, designs, supports, and maintains technology classrooms, computer labs, and virtual computing lab services. CaLT currently supports 200+ classrooms and learning spaces across multiple campuses.

Under the supervision of the Director of CaLT, the Assistant Director of CaLT will be responsible for overseeing CaLT’s Classroom Support operations. These teams support, monitor and maintain teaching and learning spaces on the Fairfax, Science & Technology, Loudoun and Arlington campuses of George Mason University.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure consistent policies and procedures are documented, executed and maintained, across CaLT Classroom Support supported spaces; aligning with industry standards
  • Develop and maintain support documentation, marketing, and training materials
  • Set standards and expectations for managing and tracking service incidents and requests submitted to Classroom Support
  • Collaborate with various technology and support units of the university (e.g. Enterprise Infrastructure Services, Learning Space Design, Libraries) to ensure coordinated support for CaLT technology efforts.
  • Develop metrics and maintain statistics on equipment functionality and ongoing maintenance; to be reported regularly to CaLT Director
  • Set and maintain clear expectations for staff performance, hold regular meetings and coach staff to maximize effectiveness, and clear communication with staff; sharing and disseminating information as needed
  • Regular assessment of training and professional development needs across the Classroom Support teams
  • Oversight of informative communication plans and customer service efforts of the Classroom Support teams

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment; 
  • Relevant experience managing full time employees (preferably technical staff);
  • Relevant experience managing geographically dispersed teams; 
  • Relevant experience in budgeting and finance; and 
  • Relevant experience in the management of computer labs and classroom facilities.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience managing full time employees; (preferably technical staff);
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience managing geographically dispersed teams;
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in budgeting and finance; 
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in the management of computer labs and classroom facilities;
  • Experience working in higher education; 
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certification; 
  • Project Management Institute Certification; and 
  • Project Management experience.

 

Salary is up tp $90,000; commensurate with education and experience.
