Instructional Designer

Penn State's World Campus located in University Park, PA has an opening for a motivated, team-oriented Instructional Designer to partner with faculty and subject matter experts to design, develop, and consult on online courses. You will use a range of technologies and systems to develop dynamic, pedagogically-sound, and technologically-appropriate online courses. These will include online courses that reach Penn State's diverse population of online students as well as courses that support other units within Penn State Outreach (advising, student services, faculty development, etc.) You may also be involved in teaching courses related to faculty development. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Experience with project management methodology or experience working with a project manager is highly preferred. Experience using a learning management system (I.e., Canvas) and a content management system is desirable. The job requires a solid understanding of the principles of instructional theory; the ability to research and evaluate emerging educational technologies and appropriately apply them to meet the intended learning objectives; and an in-depth understanding of instructional design issues related to teaching and learning in distance/on-line courses. The successful candidate must have proven experience in the ability to build highly effective and collaborative relationships with team members and faculty/subject matter experts. This job also requires strong project management skills in overseeing multiple projects concurrently.
