Research Assistant Professor

The Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery at the University of Iowa invites applicants interested in advancing cutting edge neuroendocrine tumor research to join our team.  Appointment rank is Research Assistant Professor.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Expertise in studying protein complexes and protein-protein interactions with at least 3-5 years of experience in high-throughput screening assays.
  • Expertise and experience in designing and performing assays to screen small molecule libraries for drugs targeting specific protein-protein interactions.
  • Expertise in cellular metabolism with at least 1-3 years of experience in analyzing cellular metabolites and integrating metabolomics data with relevant biochemical and biological systems.
  • Expertise and prior experience in cell cycle regulation and cell signaling.  Candidates must have proven record of publication in this area.
  • Expertise in animal modeling and experimentation with at least 1-3 years of experience in drug treatment-related animal experiments.
  • Experience with mouse models to study in vivo tumor growth and responses to treatment.
  • Experience with quantitative PCR and statistical analysis of results.
  • Experience in primary cell isolation from fresh tissues and primary cell cultures.
  • Experience in analyzing large datasets from RNA sequencing the pathway analysis and integrating them to relevant biological systems.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively in a team-oriented research environment.
  • Practical experience of the field of molecular biology is required.
  • A record of progressively responsible independent research evidenced by first-author publications, an interest in training students and fellows, as well as excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work independently is required.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills are required.
  • Experience with all current techniques in molecular biology including DNA sequence, analysis, cloning, DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, RT-PCR/qPCR, Western Blot, ChIP analysis, cell culture, transfection required.

Highly Desired Qualifications:

·         Experience with fluorescence microscopy, HPLC and mass spectrophotometry is highly desired.

·         Ability to establish organoids from tumors obtained from the operating room and propagate them in cell culture.

  • Perform characterization of proteins from organoids and cell lines to determine their cell of origin.
  • Experience with drug treatment of tumor cells in vitro.

Desired Qualifications:

·         Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends is desired.
