The Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY (https://www.vet.cornell.edu/departments/population-medicine-and-diagnostic-sciences ) seeks applicants for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the field of Bacteriology to direct the Bacteriology Laboratory of the Animal Health Diagnostic Center.

The candidate will join the dynamic Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences with extramurally funded programs in infectious disease, epidemiology, wildlife health, public health, production and companion animal health, One Health, and genetics. The department is home to over 50 faculty members.

Applicants should have a PhD, DVM, MD, or equivalent degree with postdoctoral training. We seek candidates well trained in a combination of basic and diagnostic sciences to fill an appointment combining research, teaching, and service responsibilities for the Bacteriology Laboratory of the Cornell Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC). Areas of research interest include but are not limited to the following: novel diagnostics, vaccinology, -omics, pathogenesis, antimicrobial resistance, biotechnology, and synthetic biology. There is extensive opportunity to synergize diagnostic bacteriological work and the research program.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an innovative, extramurally funded research program. Cornell University supports a collaborative, interdisciplinary Life Sciences community on the Ithaca campus, which includes a strong Department of Microbiology and Immunology within the College of Veterinary Medicine, as well as campus-wide strengths in chemistry, engineering, biophysics, cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry and computer science. Opportunities for interactions exists with Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City.

The Bacteriology Laboratory is at the forefront of diagnostic efforts in the field. The Director will share diagnostic responsibilities with a tenured faculty member and be supported by experienced laboratory managers and a highly skilled, well-qualified technical team of 19 technicians. The applicant must dedicate a significant portion of her/his appointment to this University-based diagnostic laboratory environment and have expertise in applied aspects of veterinary bacteriology. The applicant will be expected to maintain and enhance the high quality of diagnostic service that currently exists.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
