The Department of Philosophy at the University of Nevada, Reno seeks candidates for a one-year Lecturer position to begin Fall 2019. The teaching load is 4-4. The successful candidate must be prepared to teach Philosophy of Law and teach sections in at least one of the courses in the interdisciplinary Core Humanities program of the UNR Core Curriculum (Ancient and Medieval Cultures, The Modern World, American Experiences and Constitutional Change, or Science Technology and Society in the Modern Era). Ability to teach Bioethics and Ethical Theory is also desirable.
Applicants must have Ph.D. completed, and be eligible to work in the US, prior to the start of appointment (July 1, 2019).
The area of specialization is open, but successful applicants must be prepared to teach philosophy of law and upper-level value theory, as well as be willing to teach sections in the interdisciplinary Core Humanities program (in the UNR Core Curriculum).
Other things being equal, some preference will be given to candidates with interests in diversity areas such as feminism, Latin American philosophy, philosophy of race, or non-Western philosophy.
Junior faculty / Fixed Term
The Department of Philosophy administers B.A. and M.A. degree programs, with two tracks at the undergraduate level, one in general philosophy, and the other in ethics, law, and politics. In recent years, the department has experienced growth in the number of faculty, research productivity, and external funding awards. The department expects to play a noteworthy role in the university’s long-term expansion plans through its course offerings and interdisciplinary collaboration.
