DEAN, THE GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY LAW SCHOOL

Washington, DC

The George Washington University (the University) seeks a collaborative and innovative leader to serve as Dean of The George Washington University School of Law (GW Law). The well-recognized quality and high ranking of GW Law’s faculty and programs, its impressive size and scope, and its unique, desirable location provide the next dean with an exceptional opportunity to lead and empower the faculty at GW Law to envision and shape the future of legal education, scholarship, and public service. As part of an outstanding, comprehensive, urban research university that is approaching its bicentennial year in 2021, GW Law has the resources and resolve to respond to the rapidly evolving financial and pedagogical challenges facing the legal academy and the profession. This is an unparalleled opportunity for a visionary, strategic, and entrepreneurial leader.

In recent years the University has leveraged its location in the heart of Washington, DC and transformed into a destination campus for students and faculty from around the world. For GW Law, an enviable record of high bar passage rates and student employment outcomes has driven enrollment growth during a challenging time in legal education, leading to new academic program development. The expertise and depth of GW Law’s resident and adjunct faculty enable the school to offer courses, programs, and other opportunities for intellectual and professional growth that are unimaginable for most other law schools.

The next Dean of GW Law will guide a talented and dedicated group of faculty, staff, and students who are engaged in outstanding scholarship and practice and will maximize the institution’s many strengths. GW Law is seeking candidates who: will maintain and support the well defined strengths of the law school and will also demonstrate the creativity to move the school in new directions that recognize and respond to the changing nature of the legal profession; will retain and enhance the school’s visibility and reputation; will bring to the school and the University a vision of the optimal class size and appropriate curriculum development; are committed to preparing graduates for a wide range of professional opportunities; and demonstrate a short-term and long-term vision with respect to fundraising, alumni engagement, and student satisfaction and well-being.

The University has charged a search committee to recruit and vet candidates for the dean’s position and has engaged Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, to assist with this important search. Nominations, inquiries, and applications (which should include a curriculum vitae and letter of interest describing the individual’s qualifications for the position) should be submitted in confidence at: https://www.imsearch.com/7067
