The Executive Director of Alumni Affairs and Annual Giving reports directly to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and is responsible for setting strategic direction, and managing and executing the Alumni Relations and Annual Giving efforts for Hunter College. Leveraging multi-channel vehicles, the Executive Director will set and achieve annual giving revenue goals, participation goals, and contribute to major gift pipeline building. The Executive Director oversees all alumni engagement activities through class year connections, recent alumni activities, honors programs alumni, professional school alumni and other affinity groups.
Position Responsibilities
• Oversee College’s annual fundraising strategy and operations.
• Work with Vice President to set performance goals for the annual fund and the strategies for achieving them -- analyzing results, activities and costs to determine progress towards stated goals and objectives.
Fulfills specific goals and targets based on individual portfolio for annual fund staff members assigned to high-end annual fund donors. Manages annual and gift activities to support strategic plan.
• Manage comprehensive, integrated, multi-channel (mail, digital, phone, etc.) annual fund solicitations, including timing, nature of appeals, writing and reviewing copy.
• Develop and implement a plan to engage undergraduate students and build a more robust student philanthropy program.
• Oversee the further development of Hunter’s alumni mentoring program through utilization of the online alumni community and face to face meetings and networking events.
• Plan, implement and promote alumni programs in collaboration with colleagues within IA and across the campus.
• Create and implement systems to identify Annual Fund donors who require further research, and who are prospective candidates for cultivation by gift officers.
• Establish and build relationships with a wide range of alumni; maintain regular communication with alumni via direct contact, email blasts, the on-line alumni community and print publications.
• Direct and supervises a team of three or more staff members.
• As part of the Institutional Advancement team, work to maintain and improve the office’s database and technology outreach to alumni and friends.
• Prepare financial and programmatic report s for management, may write proposals

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree and eight years’ related experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 5 to 8 years of development experience, preferably in higher education.
• Demonstrated skill in gift solicitation.
• The position requires an individual with a high level of initiative, exceptional organization, written and verbal communication skills and adaptability to a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to problem solve and work independently in a team-oriented environment are essential to the position.
• Ability to represent Hunter College and the Hunter College Foundation to external constituents and work effectively with internal constituents across several levels including the president, program directors and trustees.
• Experience in planning and managing special events and fundraising activities.
• Experience in identifying, training and working with volunteers.
