VICE PRESIDENT AND GENERAL COUNSEL

The University of Rochester invites inquiries, nominations and applications for its next Vice President and General Counsel (General Counsel). Reporting directly to the President, the General Counsel is the chief legal officer of the University and a key member of incoming President Sarah Mangelsdorf's executive leadership team, as she begins her service to the University starting in July of 2019. The General Counsel also provides direct advice and counsel to the Board of Trustees on legal issues, governance, and related topics, as well as manages all legal services for the University, including the Medical Center and affiliate entities. The new General Counsel is expected to assume office by September 3, 2019.

Founded in 1850, the University of Rochester is a distinguished private research university that is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU). The University is one of the country's top-tier research universities and the fifth largest private employer in New York. For fiscal year 2019, consolidated budgeted revenues are projected to exceed $4.4 billion with anticipated activities of the fully integrated education, research and clinical activities of the Medical Center and related affiliates representing close to 90% percent of this total. The University's endowment in December 2018 exceeded $2.4 billion. Total annual research awards last year totaled approximately $438 million.

Located in the City of Rochester on the southern shore of Lake Ontario and northwest of the picturesque Finger Lakes in New York State, the University's academic programs are delivered through seven academic units within three locations: the River Campus, which houses Arts, Sciences & Engineering, the Simon Business School, and the Warner School of Education; the Medical Center, which is next to the River Campus and houses the School of Medicine and Dentistry, the Eastman Institute for Oral Health, and the School of Nursing; and downtown Rochester, home to the Eastman School of Music. The University enrolls more than 6,500 undergraduate students and nearly 5,300 graduate and professional students, drawn from all 50 states, four U.S. territories, and close to 150 countries.
