Financial Aid Counselor

Brief Summary of Work for this Position

Administers financial aid services for undergraduate and/or graduate students. Educates students and their families with other campus departments on financial aid processes; how to apply for aid and requirements for maintaining eligibility. Counsels students in person, by mail, email and telephone regarding types of appropriate aid, uses professional judgment in determining special circumstance appeals, and provides guidance regarding eligibility. Conducts financial aid workshops and other outreach activities. Processes financial aid including compliance with the Code of Federal Regulations 34 for Student aid.

N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position

Must have knowledge of the federal, state and institutional requirements concerning financial aid

Skills must include excellent interpersonal skills, crisis management, and the ability to communicate well

Must have strong attention to detail

Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a strong customer service focus

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office or other comparable office software programs

Preferred education, professional skills and experience

Experience with Banner and Image Now

Recruitment Range: $38,064 - $42,404        NC Salary Grade Equivalency:  67

Hours Per Week:  40 hours per week        Months Per Year: 12 Months

Work Days: Monday - Friday    Work Hours: 8:00AM - 5:00PM
