PRESIDENT OF THE AUBURN UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION
Auburn University invites nominations and applications for the position of vice president for the Office of Development and president of the Auburn University Foundation. The successful candidate will provide visionary leadership and guidance for functions pertaining to all development programs at Auburn University. This includes establishing all strategies to attain the university’s campaign and annual funding priorities, which requires the establishment of strong relationships with the university Board of Trustees, the Auburn University Foundation board, the Auburn University Alumni Association, the deans of all the university’s colleges and the athletic foundation. Working with and through these constituencies, the successful candidate will lead strategy development and implementation of all activities to enhance fundraising efforts; serve as the ambassador to the university’s alumni and friends, personally identifying, cultivating and closing gifts and providing stewardship in recognition of donor philanthropy. The vice president supervises an organization of nearly 150 employees through eight direct reports and an annual development budget of approximately $25 million. Minimum qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, communications, public relations or a related field with 15 to 20 years of business experience and a minimum of seven years experience in directing large multi-faceted fundraising campaigns and programs, and experience working with foundations and boards. Knowledge of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) gift regulations, fundraising techniques and strategies, and accounting and budgeting principles and practices is also required. Past experience must demonstrate the ability to plan and implement fundraising programs and campaign marketing strategies. The successful candidate must have strong leadership capabilities along with superior management and communications skills with an innate ability to build consensus among diverse groups. A master’s and/or doctorate would be an asset. Additional experience in other not-for-profit environments would be helpful; an extensive background in university development and fundraising is strongly preferred.
