Associate Vice President for Financial Services

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) seeks an energetic, collaborative, solutions driven, and future focused leader to be the next Associate Vice President for Financial Services (AVP). Reporting to the Vice President for Administration and Finance, the AVP is responsible for management of all financial areas including financial reporting, budget development, accounts receivable, general ledger, inventory control, accounts payable, contract and grant post award accounting, and serving as liaison with University System of Maryland and State higher education officials. The AVP leads a team of talented and motivated direct reports and more than 60 staff members under their management who provide University wide financial and budget planning, financial analysis, processing, training, and reporting services. The AVP oversees Budget and Resource Analysis, the Controller’s Office, Student Business Services, a Training Coordinator and an Executive Administrative Assistant.

 

The AVP is responsible for management of all financial areas including financial reporting, budget development, accounts receivable, general ledger, inventory control, accounts payable, contract and grant post award accounting, and serves as liaison with University System of Maryland and State higher education officials.

 

There are many exciting projects underway in which the AVP will participate and contribute including: developing a multi-year strategic financial plan, implementing a new campus master plan, business process redesign, leveraging technology to improve service and gain efficiencies, continuing the management and implementation of shared services centers across campus, implementing Peoplesoft, and expanding financial literacy education and programming effort.

 

A Bachelor’s degree is required in finance, accounting, business, or related field (MBA/CPA preferred), as is ten+ years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience and success in similarly complex and decentralized organizations; experience in higher education institutions is preferred. The AVP must be a skilled communicator and collaborator with a proactive, engaging, integrative approach to creatively finding solutions to operational and strategic issues, and be a capable and trusted relationship builder across the range of campus constituencies.  The AVP will have demonstrated experience managing teams, with a style that empowers his/her staff to take ownership of their responsibilities and commitments, and challenges them to continuously improve the overall capability of the team in support of university goals and aspirations.
