Northeastern University (Northeastern) is seeking a forward thinking, collaborative, and strategic leader to be Vice President, Administrative Planning and Innovation.  The (VP) provides leadership and operational management excellence for administrative functions reporting to the Senior Vice President for Finance and Treasurer.  The VP has a critical role in shaping overall strategic and operational planning to facilitate alignment and accountability for SVP’s units with University goals and to provide guidance in streamlining operations, eliminating inefficiencies, and improving processes to enhance collaboration and delivery of services.

 

The VP will be an internal advisor and partner charged with enabling and aligning the Administrative units to meet objectives in their University's strategic plan. Taking a deeply collaborative approach, the VP seeks to engage a broad set of stakeholders and arrive at a set of priorities that is responsive to, and aligned with, their aspirations for the institution. The VP will empower the stakeholders to establish accountability and ownership, and by setting clear, achievable, and measurable goals.

 

Candidates must have a demonstrated record of accountability and success in business process innovation, internal consulting ability, strong team leadership and management ability, and ability to drive efficient and effective operations to improve organizational capacity and effectiveness.  Essential to this role is at least 10 years of cross functional management experience in a similarly complex environment and demonstrated expertise in a wide range of administrative functions which may include HR, IT, Strategy, Real Estate, Finance, Budget, Facilities, Procurement and Campus Development.  Candidates will have demonstrated experience identifying opportunities for process improvement and creating innovative solutions to challenging strategic and operational issues in a high performance, results oriented, best practices focused organization.

 

Critical to this role is the ability to use technology tools and strong consultative and advising skills to streamline and improve business processes and integrate functional areas more seamlessly, enabling more effective decision-making capability and improving capability in project management for the division.  The VP will translate client/institutional needs into workable business solutions globally for the University.  Equally significant qualifications include strong integrity, a high level of energy, excellent oral and written communication skills, and exceptional interpersonal relationship and team-building skills. The successful candidate should be highly collegial, consultative, have a non-hierarchical management style, the ability to develop and sustain collaborative relationships, and demonstrate commitment to cultural diversity and equal opportunity.

 

A bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree or relevant certifications preferred.  Respect for and commitment to the mission and values of Northeastern University is essential.
