Regional Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs & Vice Provost Search

The University of South Florida St. Petersburg (USFSP) invites nominations of and applications from dynamic and visionary individuals interested in an exciting leadership opportunity to serve as the next Regional Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs & Vice Provost (RVCAA-VP). The new RVCAA-VP will join an energetic and collegial university leadership team, led by the Chief Executive Officer, Regional Chancellor Dr. Martin Tadlock. The RVCAA-VP is the chief academic officer of the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg (USFSP) and provides leadership and vision for the development and implementation of the academic future of this campus. The RVCAA-VP supports excellence in teaching, research, and service. The RVCAA-VP oversees the academic units and centers, evaluates faculty and staff; participates in the budget process; serves on the Regional Chancellor’s cabinet; engages in community outreach in support of opportunities to grow the University’s reputation, resources, and impact in the region.

The University of South Florida is currently working under a legislative mandate to consolidate the three campuses (USF-Tampa, USF-Sarasota Manatee, USF-St. Petersburg), which currently hold separate SACS accreditation. USF is one of three Florida universities to have achieved the status of pre-eminent university. Post-consolidation (2020 forward), the RVCAA-VP will support USFSP’s distinctive programs and identity while collaborating with academic leadership to achieve performance factors necessary to maintain pre-eminent status.

Qualifications:  The required qualifications for the position are:

  • An earned Ph.D. or equivalent from an accredited institution of higher education with significant academic and research accomplishments commensurate with the rank of full professor at a Carnegie classified R1 doctoral university-highest research activity
  • A demonstrated commitment to achieving student success across multiple measures, including partnering with Student Affairs
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing and promoting diversity and inclusion among faculty, staff, students, and within the curriculum
  • Duties that include effective budget oversight, supervision of complex educational units, as well as faculty recruitment, mentoring, and retention, including tenure and promotion processes in collaboration with colleges/departments
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to negotiate and advocate effectively in complex environments
  • Strong collaborative management skills
  • Successful experience achieving and/or maintaining regional and/or specialized accreditations

Preferred qualifications are:

  • A minimum of three years of successful senior academic leadership within a Carnegie classified R1 doctoral university-highest research activity
  • The ability to articulate the mission and vision of a preeminent state research university campus with distinctive programs and identity
  • High integrity, energy and enthusiasm
  • Entrepreneurial leadership, teamwork, and collaborative style
  • Demonstrated active engagement with higher education at the national or international level
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • supporting shared governance and leading democratically
    • advancing diversity and inclusion initiatives, and global perspectives
    • community engagement and experiential learning
    • forging relationships with colleges/units across an institution
    • innovative approaches to the development and implementation of research and academic programs at all levels
    • advancing sustainability initiatives through collaboration with student and community groups
