Associate Director of Student Health & Wellness


Provides overall management, leadership, and program direction for Student Health Services (SHS) and Wellness Promotion & Education (WPE). Assists the Director of Campus Recreation & Student Wellness in the coordination, planning, and development of related programs.


Provides the Director with critical information and feedback on all core matters related to the success of SHS and WPE. Assists with developing, implementing, and assessing the vision, purpose, aims, objectives, and strategies for all programs and services within SHS and WPE. Assists with planning, implementing, assessing, and improving the overall SHS and WPE experience for students, faculty, and staff with an emphasis on student development, satisfaction, and retention. Responsible for oversight and administration of the student immunization process and working closely with campus partners to ensure compliance. Works closely with the Director on outbreaks or other related health issues that require reporting, communication, and a coordinated campus response. Assists with researching and responding to crisis issues related to physical health. Assists the Director with the creation and assessment of the SHS Business Continuity Plan (BCP), Emergency Operations Plan, Physical Master Plan, and Resource Allocation & Management Plan. Strategizes and implements best practices in the design, development, and operations of health promotion activities, programs, and services with the Health Educator. Assists with providing workshops and trainings to assist students, faculty, and staff in matters improving wellness and physical health. Ensures wellness promotion and health services are in compliance with all Federal, State, and local laws as well as all CSU Executive Orders and CI policies, procedures, and guidelines. Assists the Director with the planning process for the annual operating budget and implements budget and procurement procedures for the department. Assists the Director with the preparation, planning, allocation, and management of staff resources for SHS and WPE. Works with the Health Educator in the training, supervision, and evaluation of all student assistants within SHS and WPE. Assists with leadership and facilitation of staff orientation, leadership retreats, and trainings. Serves on various campus-wide committees and directly supports fee committees related to SHS and WPE. Works closely with the University’s Title IX Inclusion Office and Counseling & Psychological Services to provide educational and support programs to students. Performs additional related duties as assigned.


Reports directly to the Director of Campus Recreation & Student Wellness. Provides direct supervision for Health Services and Wellness Promotion & Education staff. Works with the health services contractor to provide comprehensive and quality services to the students. Serves as a member of the Campus Recreation & Student Wellness leadership team. Forms collaborative relationships with students, Campus Life staff, Division of Student Affairs staff, and other University administrators, faculty, and staff.


Master’s degree in health education, public health, health sciences, or a related field is required; doctoral degree preferred. At least four years of progressively responsible professional experience in a related area required. Two years of management or supervisory experience, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved is required. Experience in a university setting is required. Current, professional Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) or Certified in Public Health (CPH) credentials preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to develop a rapport quickly with a diverse student, staff, and faculty population. The ability to present comprehensive information to management, faculty, staff, and student groups. Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting for purposes of assisting in the development of a student affairs organization. The ability to build teams and support a positive working environment. Knowledge of National, State and local laws related to providing health services including HIPPA is strongly recommended. Active experience with emergency management and/or behavioral/healthcare intervention activities. Skills in organizing and administering a comprehensive health program to meet the needs of a diverse community are strongly preferred.
