Lamar University invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Engineering, to take office during the summer of 2019 or soon thereafter. The ideal candidate will combine exemplary academic achievements in engineering, significant professional experience, and strategic leadership ability.

Lamar University, a comprehensive public university, is among the fastest growing Texas colleges and universities and a member of The Texas State University System. A Carnegie classified doctoral granting institution, Lamar has an enrollment of more than 15,000 (2/3 undergraduate and 1/3 graduate students) and offers 96 undergraduate, 51 master's, and 8 doctoral degree programs. In addition, Lamar provides distance education and public service programs to citizens of the region, state and beyond.

Lamar's campus in Beaumont, southeast Texas - about 90 miles east of Houston, places the College of Engineering in a particularly privileged location. There is a strong industry base in close proximity and a dedicated alumni base employed in many of these industries, making for excellent job placement, co-op and internship opportunities for students.

The College of Engineering offers six undergraduate degree, six graduate degree, and two doctoral degree programs in its five academic departments: chemical, civil and environmental, electrical, industrial, and mechanical engineering. All undergraduate engineering programs are accredited by ABET. The College currently has 1,754 students, mostly undergraduate, with 150 master's and 70 doctoral students; and 58 full-time faculty members. The College is host to four Research Centers with projects funded by the State of Texas.

The Dean of the College of Engineering is the academic and administrative leader and the College's principal advocate. Desired qualifications include, in part, an earned doctorate from an accredited institution in engineering; accomplishments commensurate with an appointment as a tenured faculty member within the College; administrative experience as a dean, associate dean, department chair, or comparable position; experience in developing relationships with industries, alumni, and funding agencies; a track record of effective strategic planning, policy development and budget oversight; and collegial collaboration as a member of an academic administrative team.
