NYU Abu Dhabi

New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks an accomplished, innovative, and collaborative academic leader to serve as its next Vice Provost, Graduate and Postdoctoral Programs.  The Vice Provost will be a dynamic individual committed to research and inquiry, transparency and inclusiveness, and engagement with external stakeholders and partners in academia, government and private sectors. The Vice Provost will build and strengthen the graduate program enterprise at NYUAD by partnering with leadership on overall strategy and policy designed to take NYUAD to its next phase of academic growth. The Vice Provost will be a seasoned leader with a deep understanding of academic research and graduate education and will have experience cultivating creative solutions toward ambitious goals and translating them into action.

NYU Abu Dhabi is pioneering a new model of higher education for a global world, dedicated at once to excellence in teaching and research and to advancing cooperation and progress on humanity’s shared challenges. Drawing on the strengths of the NYU global network, it offers an outstanding liberal arts and sciences education to students from the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and around the world, with a distinctive focus on intercultural understanding and leadership. It supports innovative research that pushes forward the frontiers of knowledge and responds in powerful and interdisciplinary ways to vital global and local challenges. NYUAD advances NYU as a model university for the 21st century and contributes in multiple ways to the development of a sustainable, knowledge-based economy in Abu Dhabi.

As a key member of the Provost’s leadership team, the Vice Provost will play a critical role in advancing the remarkable growth trajectory NYUAD has enjoyed during the initial phase of its establishment.  As NYUAD’s foundation of excellence in high-quality liberal arts undergraduate education has been secured, the Vice Provost will join NYUAD at a time where resources and commitment will turn to developing high quality, research-based graduate degree programs in partnership with NYU New York and other partners within and outside of the NYU global network.  The Vice Provost will have the opportunity to transform graduate education at NYUAD and will be a catalyst for academic strategy, cross-disciplinary and cross-border collaboration, and curriculum assessment and planning.

Key opportunities for the incoming Vice Provost are as follows:

  • Developing relevant and appealing Master’s degree programs aligned with NYUAD’s intellectual vision
  • Developing high quality research-focused PhD programs
  • Enhancing interdisciplinary research, scholarship and creative activity
  • Advancing the integration of a growing graduate student population into the NYUAD context

The successful candidate will possess an earned doctorate and will demonstrate a record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and professional activity sufficient to meet the qualifications required for the assignment of faculty rank of professor. Experience as an administrator in a graduate research environment and a track record of developing and launching successful graduate programs is greatly preferred. The incoming Vice Provost will be an academic entrepreneur who has experience with global education and multidisciplinary collaboration and have knowledge of higher education budgeting, planning, personnel, and curricular assessment processes.
