The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College (UCBA) invites applications for an Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.  UCBA is the largest regional college in Ohio and one of the largest colleges at the University of Cincinnati. We offer primarily associate degrees in career and transition programs as well as general education courses to approximately 5,100 students. This position is the Chief Academic Officer of the College and, as such, is responsible for all relevant academic matters, including academic planning, faculty affairs, and the academic success of the students. This position reports directly to the Dean of the college.

 

The role and responsibilities of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs are as follows:
Academic Responsibilities include enhancing student academic success related to retention, graduation and transfer/transition to baccalaureate programs; coordinating and  maintaining program alignment with other UC colleges; coordinating articulation agreements with external institutions, as needed; coordinating the college’s academic assessment; providing oversight of academic programs, including the program review process, working with chairs and academic departments on program changes, developing new programs, and closing programs; submitting proposals through university, state, and Higher Learning Commission (HLC) approval processes; supporting and promoting faculty development in cooperation with college and university initiatives.

 

College-Level Responsibilities include coordinating activities of the Academic Unit Heads in support of the college’s academic mission, including, but not limited to: meeting regularly with the Academic Unit Heads; approving the course schedule; monitoring course enrollments and the addition or cancellation of classes each term in cooperation with relevant Academic Unit Heads; working with the Academic Unit Heads to support new initiatives such as opening or closing programs, distance learning, hybrid courses/programs, and student-friendly class scheduling; assisting and supporting Academic Units on all discipline-specific professional accreditation activities; analyzing classroom utilization; conducting annual performance reviews with Academic Unit Heads in concert with the Dean; representing the interests of the Academic Unit Heads to the Dean (and vice versa). 

 

Management Responsibilities include providing support to the Academic Unit Heads and the Dean on appropriate faculty search functions; managing UC adjunct faculty workload policies and full-time faculty overload assignments; participating in annual academic unit budget meetings with the Dean and Business Officer; supervising the Co-directors of the Learning & Teaching Center, the Distance Learning Director, and the Honors Director; supervising the Advising Center Director and managing overall expectations, policies and procedures for academic advising, in general; managing student and faculty issues in consultation with the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs and the Dean.

College Committee Responsibilities include serving on a number of governance committees and task forces (e.g., Strategic Planning Committee and Academic Assessment Committee) and the Dean’s Administrative Team.

 

University-Level Responsibilities include serving on the UC Associate Deans Council and on other appropriate university committees and task forces; maintaining relevant academic liaison relationships with UC colleges and administration; working with the Provost’s Office on university-wide initiatives; completing college-level reports upon request.

 

Regional and State Level Responsibilities include serving as liaison to the region’s educational institutions, including K-12, institutions of higher education, and state agencies; serving as liaison to the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) and managing any policies or actions required by the ODHE; working with the Dean and other appropriate offices to fulfill statewide initiatives/mandates; serving as liaison to the HLC and managing any required accreditation actions.

 

The Associate Dean of Academic Affairs represents the Dean of UC Blue Ash College in other capacities upon the request of the Dean. Other duties and responsibilities will be assigned by the Dean.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned doctorate; a record of professorial excellence (in teaching, scholarship, and service); experience in curriculum development; demonstrated supervisory experience; a minimum of two years of experience in an academic-administrative position; and excellent written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills.

 

Additional Qualities and Qualifications: In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a collegial and collaborative management style; exhibit the ability to manage multiple agendas and tasks simultaneously; show evidence of a commitment to diversity and excellence; possess experience in guiding institutional assessment efforts; and have experience with higher education system accreditation processes. The ideal candidate will also have earned the rank of full professor and possess experience as an effective academic unit head.
