Employment Status: Full-time, exempt position, included in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP).

Work Schedule: Generally, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

The University

California State University, San Bernardino is a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in Inland Southern California. Typical Activities

Under the general supervision of the Director of Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Associate Director of Financial Aid Operations directs the day to day operations, providing direction and guidance to financial aid staff that assure thorough, responsive, respectful customer service to students of students at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Examine current operations to document and/or develop new policies, procedures, and processing using industry wide best practices that best serves the needs of CSUSB students.
  • Manage staff and ensure they receive ongoing professional training development to uphold/improve customer service in the delivery of financial aid and scholarships to over 20,000 student recipients.
  • Supervise the operations, financial literacy program coordination, peer advisor program and other Financial Aid initiatives.
  • Hire, evaluate and manage a team of professionals to implement and provide clear and accurate information about financial aid student programs using multiple mediums of delivery.
  • Analyze and resolve problems proactively and develop business processes to ensure program continuity.
  • Exercise judgment to determine appropriate courses of action.
  • Maintain updated information related to state and federal compliance issues for financial aid. This includes providing guidance and interpretation to others on financial aid regulations.
  • Supervise Financial Aid Technicians, processors and student assistants to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.
  • Formulate procedures for functional area to ensure accurate, efficient, and timely delivery of student aid that complies with regulations and supports departmental objectives.
  • Coordinate the preparation of statistical reports as needed by both external and internal constituents.
  • Advise prospective new, current, and reactivating students with respect to financial literacy and all financial programs.
  • Represent Financial Aid Department on various CSUSB and external Boards/committees as needed.
  • Address issues and needs and reports back to Financial Aid team, Student Affairs and campus leadership as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) and a minimum of five years of experience with administering policies, regulations, and practices for awarding financial aid, including needs analysis and packaging. A minimum of three years of supervisory experience, preferably in a higher education and collective bargaining environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Managerial experience
  • Advanced knowledge of University policies, processes, and procedures, including those related to supervising employees in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Experience using complex databases.
  • Working knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs, such as PeopleSoft.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
