PRESIDENT

The College of St. Scholastica (CSS), a vibrant, multi-campus institution in the Catholic Benedictine tradition with its main campus in Duluth, Minnesota seeks an inspiring, collaborative, and visionary leader to serve as its 13th President. The new president is expected to capitalize on the College’s rich history while shaping its future. The next president is expected to take office in summer or fall 2019.

Founded in 1912 by Benedictine Sisters, today the College is a co-educational, independent, comprehensive institution of higher learning offering undergraduate and graduate programs across six academic schools. The College’s vision is to develop thoughtful and engaged leaders, sharpened and sensitized by the liberal arts, who are prepared for and committed to serving and transforming the world. Inclusive Excellence – the idea that academic excellence is best realized in a community that is diverse and inclusive – is central to our mission as a learning community. The Benedictine Values of community, hospitality, respect, stewardship, and love of learning are at the heart of who we are and all we do.

CSS currently operates seven satellite campuses within Minnesota in addition to the main campus in Duluth. Programs are offered both online and on-site to over 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The Duluth campus remains home to traditional undergraduate and graduate programs grounded in the liberal arts, with excellent professional programs and a particularly strong focus and reputation in the health sciences and nursing. Overlooking Lake Superior, the 186-acre Duluth campus is a beautiful setting with a mix of new and historic buildings. An on-campus resident population, Division III athletics, and numerous student groups make the College a vibrant place of community and learning.

In academic year 2018-19, the College enrolled 2,479 undergraduate students, 1,711 of whom are in our traditional program on the Duluth campus. The College’s graduate population is 1,564 with a total enrollment of 4,043 for all campuses. In the past decade, there has been substantial growth in the graduate, online, and non-traditional adult student market, with this group comprising more than half of the student body. The College is served by 207 dedicated full-time faculty members, 200 part-time faculty, and 190 committed staff and administrative members.

The next president will have earned distinction as an institutional leader, exhibit financial acumen, be a strong communicator and have previous fundraising success, preferably with experience in a college setting similar to that of St. Scholastica. The next president will also understand, support, embrace and model leadership reflective of Benedictine values and the Catholic intellectual tradition and be able to communicate both within and outside of the College. The President will also lead the finalization and implementation of the Institutional Strategic Plan.
