Home to 11 colleges and schools offering more than 120 academic programs, UMKC offers a comprehensive portfolio. It is the only public university in Missouri with Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Studies and a Conservatory of Music and Dance. UMKC also maintains undergraduate- and graduate-level programs with comprehensive curricula and research in all traditional and terminal degree academic disciplines — including Arts and Sciences, Biological Sciences, Education, Engineering, Law, Management, Medicine and Nursing.

Poised to build off momentum and a 5-year high in sponsored research activity, UMKC looks to usher in a new era of research growth, enhanced scholarship, and a broader climate of entrepreneurialism.  UMKC has the foundational pieces needed to push for real progress in the impacts interdisciplinary scholarship and creative works. With comprehensive programs and funding opportunities found immediately within the greater Kansas City region, UMKC is committed to becoming nationally recognized for its research, and seeks a chief research officer to build the successful structures to reach new heights.

The Vice Chancellor for Research will cultivate an elevated level of research and scholarship for the University.  Reporting to the Chancellor, and partnering with the Provost, Deans, Center/Institute Directors and Faculty, this individual is expected to help lead UMKC in its ambition to become the model for urban research universities.  This scholar will be asked to accomplish two main objectives: build upon the existing strengths and distinctiveness of scholarly and creative works, and usher in a new era of sponsored research activity that elevates the stature and success of the university as an urban-serving research institution in a ripe regional location.

The Vice Chancellor must be an open, transparent communicator and colleague, dedicated to the principles of inclusion and equity, and respectful of all the University's diverse constituencies.
