Cleveland Clinic, one of the world’s most distinguished academic medical centers, announces a search for the Department Chair of Hematology and Medical Oncology within the Taussig Cancer Institute.

 

The Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology, with 67 physicians, is the largest of five Departments in the Taussig Cancer Institute. The Cancer Institute, ranked # 5 in the US News and World Report, recently moved to a new, state-of-the-art 280,000 sq. ft. outpatient facility that promotes multi-disciplinary care and a warm, healing environment for patients. The Department currently has over 300 actively enrolling clinical trials. A very large and well developed Palliative Medicine Program is part of the Hematology and Medical Oncology Department. The Department is fully integrated with the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, and the Hematology and Medical Oncology fellowship program is one of the most successful in the country.

 

The Taussig Cancer Institute is part of the NCI designated Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and has access to extensive basic and translational research programs through Case Western Reserve University and through the Lerner Research Institute of the Cleveland Clinic. A unique aspect to the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center is the fact that we (Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals) serve over 60% of our catchment area, providing a unique population science research opportunity. The Taussig Cancer Institute is one of the largest and most clinically active in the United States, with 11,500 new cancer patients and 5,000 new benign hematology consults annually.

 

We are searching for a physician leader, in every sense of the word, to carry the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology into the future. The ideal candidate should be an excellent clinician with an established track record of academic productivity.  Experience and skills with operations and finance are also sought. An ability to work within an integrated, multi-specialty environment is essential. A keen interest in the study of leadership is preferred. The successful candidate will be eligible for both faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with experience at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
