The Division of General Internal Medicine within the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa-Carver College of Medicine is seeking to hire an infectious disease epidemiologist for an appointment as an Associate (no track). The successful candidate must have a PhD degree in epidemiology with an additional degree in public health preferred. Postdoctoral training experience in infectious complications after surgery is preferred. The successful candidate will be required to develop an independently funded research program through a career development award in the areas of treatment of prosthetic joint infections, chronic antibiotic suppression, antimicrobial stewardship, prevention of and/or improving care delivery in healthcare-associated infections. Experience with Department of Veterans Affairs is required. The successful candidate must be able to collaborate with other faculty in the design and execution of innovative research programs and assist other faculty with multi-center studies creating and evaluating infection control/antimicrobial stewardship interventions.

 

The successful candidate is required to have excellent communication and leadership skills, excellent organization skills and demonstrate job-related experience with a commitment to diversity in the academic setting. In addition, the successful candidate must have experience making significant contributions to grant proposals (e.g. NIH, AHRQ), working on multicenter intervention studies, at least five peer-reviewed publications as first/senior author, and expertise in meta-analysis. Experience conducting research using large-scale observational data (e.g. clinical and/or population-health data, electronic health records, etc) is required. The candidate is required to have experience with traditional and advanced (i.e. propensity score analysis) statistical methods within the field of biostatistics or epidemiology, and should be adept with the use of statistical software such as SAS and SQL. Experience with management, curation, and/or linking large datasets is desirable.
