Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU), located in Chicago, Illinois, invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

The new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs will join NEIU during a time of optimism and forward momentum. Dr. Gloria J. Gibson was appointed President by NEIU's Board of Trustees on March 15, 2018 and is embarking on a bold vision of transformation to further the institution's mission of providing an exceptional academic experience and preparing a diverse community of students for leadership and service within the region and beyond as outlined in NEIU’s Strategic Plan. Under the President’s leadership, the University will focus on, among other areas, student access and success. The University seeks a Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs who can provide strong leadership during a transformation that will enhance our retention and graduation rates and help lead a diverse institution by promoting collaboration, consensus-building, and courage.

 

Reporting to President Gibson, the new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs will be a key institutional leader and partner in achieving NEIU's full promise and potential. NEIU is seeking a Provost who will provide outstanding leadership for the academic mission of the University. As the University’s chief academic officer, the Provost will provide administrative leadership for the Colleges and support units within the area of Academic Affairs.

 

The University seeks an individual with a proven record of transformational leadership. The ideal candidate is an innovative administrator, an accomplished researcher/scholar, a dedicated educator, and an individual who understands and is excited about the challenges and opportunities of a public, urban, comprehensive institution. A commitment to and demonstrated record of advancing diversity in all its forms is essential, as is knowledge and experience in creative problem solving and decision making. The successful candidate will also display strong strategic planning, resource allocation and budgetary skills, substantial administrative experience, and enthusiasm for working within a robust and disciplined labor/management culture. A terminal degree appropriate to the candidate’s academic field and from an accredited institution is required. Appointment as a tenured professor will be determined at the time of hire by the candidate’s prospective department in consultation with the University’s President.
