Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences

Located in the heart of Central Florida, Stetson University seeks an enthusiastic and visionary leader as its next Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. One of the top regional comprehensive institutions in the nation, Stetson is on a path to greater achievement and distinctiveness as a student-centered, innovative institution. Due to strategic investments in academics and student success over the past ten years, the university continues to further establish its position as an influential force in educating future leaders.

The College of Arts and Sciences is an integral part of Stetson University, ranked #5 in the South as a top tier regional comprehensive university with a longstanding commitment to excellence in liberal arts undergraduate education, outstanding professional graduate programs, and diversity and inclusion.  In 2018, the university enrolls approximately 3,150 undergraduates and 1,180 graduate students among its four colleges and schools: College of Arts and Sciences, College of Law, School of Business Administration, and the School of Music.  With practical experiences infused in its programs, culture, and community, Stetson emphasizes the importance of an education grounded in liberal learning both in the College as well as in the professional school curricula.

The College is a core part of the university, with over 2,000 students, 123 faculty across 19 academic departments, and an increasing number of interdisciplinary programs. The dean will harness the disciplinary diversity of the College to establish a vision for its future direction, and will advocate for the vital role of liberal arts and sciences in modern higher education. At the core of the position is a broad span of leadership and oversight of the College’s educational structure, programs, personnel, and strategic direction.  In partnership with other senior administrators, the dean has significant input in the College’s facilities, recruitment strategies, alumni networking, and development operations. As the leader of the largest academic unit, the dean will have a unique opportunity to guide a broad and comprehensive organization, provide intellectual leadership to dedicated faculty and staff, and develop innovative strategies for academic programs and student engagement. The dean of the College is part of a cooperative team of five academic deans and a member of the university’s senior academic leadership led by Stetson University’s Executive Vice President and Provost.

Stetson seeks a dean who will be visible and engaged in the university community and will possess a dynamic leadership style that inspires faculty, students, staff, and alumni to collaborate in the development of a shared vision for the future. An administrator with a track record of success in academic administration, with an understanding of and a commitment to private higher education, and professional accomplishments in scholarship and pedagogy that warrant appointment with tenure at the rank of professor is required.
