The University of Arkansas System announces a global search and invites nominations and applications for the position of chancellor of the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith.  
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith (UAFS), is a public, co-educational, four-year university located in Fort Smith, Arkansas. UAFS is one of 19 academic institutions and affiliates governed by the University of Arkansas System Board of Trustees and administered by the president of the system. 

UAFS offers a dynamic learning environment for nearly 7,000 students each semester. Small class sizes and applied learning opportunities support the student-centered education that has defined UAFS since its founding in 1928. Propelled by an $83 million endowment, UAFS offers 60 bachelor’s and associate degrees, 35 certificates and a master’s program. State-of-the-art campus facilities ensure the most up-to-date, hands-on training. UAFS is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

Students can participate in more than 100 student organizations, such as Greek life, intramural sports, academic societies and cultural groups. For students who want to live on campus, UAFS offers both a residence hall with a full-service dining facility and an apartment complex for upper-level students. The Lions and Lady Lions compete in NCAA Division II baseball, women’s volleyball, and men’s and women’s basketball, tennis, cross country and golf.
UAFS offers in-state tuition rates not only to Arkansas residents but also to students from Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. The university campus occupies 168 acres with an award-winning, nationally- recognized arboretum that has 1,182 GPS-inventoried trees representing 81 species.  In 2003, the campus was named the “Best Maintained Landscape in the Nation.”

The chancellor is the chief executive officer of the university, reporting to the president of the University of Arkansas System and the Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas. In accordance with university policy, the chancellor provides leadership for all activities of the university and is accountable for its overall operation and success. The chancellor employs an array of vice-chancellors to provide leadership and assistance in all aspects of carrying out the operation and mission of the university.

Preferred qualifications include the following:
    Earned doctorate; 
    A record of progressive, administrative leadership experience with significant decision-making responsibilities affecting an entire campus or as head of a major academic or administrative unit in an academic environment;
    A track record of innovative funding initiatives and success managing complex budgets;
    Experience establishing and maintaining partnerships with business and industry;
    Ability to align institutional priorities with the state’s productivity-based funding model;
    Experience building graduate programs; and
    Commitment to diversity and inclusion as core values that enhance the educational process.
