President and Chief Executive Officer

The University of New Mexico Foundation (Foundation) seeks a President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead it into a new era of success. Having recently celebrated the early achievement of raising $1 billion in the Changing Worlds 2020: The Campaign for UNM, the Foundation is exceptionally well-positioned to build upon this record of success.

Reporting to the Foundation's Board of Trustees Executive Committee and working in close contact with The University of New Mexico (UNM) President Garnett Stokes, currently in her first year at the helm, the CEO leads an enterprise entirely dedicated to the support of UNM, the State's flagship institution. A Carnegie R1 Doctoral University (Highest Research Activity), UNM provides the full range of education, scholarly research, creative endeavors and public service to the State and its citizens, including NCAA Division I athletics and a comprehensive academic medical center (including a teaching hospital) on the historic campus in Albuquerque. An independent 501(c)(3) organization, the Foundation is fully aligned with the activities and goals of UNM.

The new CEO will join the Foundation at an ideal time. Building on the success of the current campaign, the CEO will have the opportunity to develop a strategic plan for the Foundation, a centerpiece of which will be its next campaign effort. President Stokes is articulating an exciting and aspirational agenda for UNM that will capture the imagination of CEO candidates. The Foundation's infrastructure is both exceptionally sound and elastic as stated in recent AGB review.

Accomplishing these tasks successfully requires an advancement leader of considerable experience and success. Demonstrating a successful track record as a major and/or principal gift fundraiser within a university setting, the new CEO will benefit from 10 or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience, preferably within an institution of equal or greater complexity; direct experience with an institutionally related foundation is preferred. Superior strategic skills are of the utmost importance, as are excellent relationship-building, media and communication skills, including public speaking and listening, as well as being social media savvy. The successful candidate will have significant financial acumen, including the ability to work closely with a highly successful investment committee managing a large endowment. A bachelor's degree is required and an advanced degree is preferred. Additional information about the position, including a Leadership Profile, can be found at www.wittkieffer.com.

The Foundation is poised to increase significantly its capacity to support UNM and thus to have a direct and lasting impact on the citizens of the State and beyond. The Foundation’s next leader will play a seminal role in that success.

Inquiries, nominations and applications are invited. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled. For full consideration, applicant materials should be received by March 1, 2019. Candidates should provide, as three separate documents, a curriculum vitae, a letter of application that addresses the responsibilities and requirements described in this Leadership Profile and a list of five references. References will not be contacted without prior permission. Inquiries, nominations, applications and questions may be directed to the Witt/Kieffer consultants Dennis M.
