The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) College of Nursing (CON) seeks a dynamic and innovative leader to advance the research and scholarship mission of faculty within the College of Nursing. The Associate Dean for Research (ADR) drives and facilitates interdisciplinary research across sectors of the University with the CON, ensuring involvement of constituents and community partners, as appropriate, to foster achievement of CON research and scholarship objectives and to foster and sustain program vibrancy and improvement.
Reporting to the Dean of the College of Nursing, the ADR is a vital member of the CON leadership team. The intent of this position is to expand the recognition of the UTHSC CON faculty for excellence in scholarship and research. An earned nursing degree is not required; rather, the successful applicant will possess a doctoral degree with experience and knowledge in clinical research, a track record of R-level funding, a history of working successfully with nurse colleagues, and a demonstrated ability to support the research careers of others.
The ADR will manage the daily operations of the Office of Research and Grant Support, supervise associated staff, and provide leadership in facilitating and strengthening CON research endeavors, funding success, and productivity. The CON faculty and ADR benefit from the College’s investments in grant writing, technical and editorial support, and statistical expertise. The ADR will mentor faculty, develop and promote research policies and guidelines that support scholarly success, and develop short- and long-range strategic research plans that promote basic and translational research within the CON and between the CON and other colleges, departments, and institutions.
The successful candidate will qualify for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor, display in their CV a proven ability to mentor junior faculty through collaborative works such as senior authored peer-reviewed publications, and demonstrate experience in collaborating with or including nurses in federally funded research, pilot work, and publications.
