Assistant Vice Chancellor for Community Engagement

Summary of Position           

The AVC CE reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and is a member of Academic Affairs’ senior staff. The AVC CE provides leadership, management and support to an array of programs, offices and partnerships that connect the talent and resources of the university to the academic, creative, service interests and needs of the broader community, as well as leadership in supporting the promotion of cultural arts functions and activities. The position is the point of contact for issues that relate to off-campus academic, service-related, and artistic engagements that serve individuals and groups “outside the walls” of the traditional campus and provide leadership in working with numerous on-campus and off-campus partners to continuously deepen the scholarly and creative engagement of the university with the community.

Minimum Requirements     

Applicants must hold a terminal degree from an accredited university and possess strong communication and analytical skills, a successful track record of leadership, and demonstrated ability to work in concert with faculty, senior academic officers and other vested parties on campus and in the surrounding communities. The successful candidate will have a minimum of three years’ experience working with academic external programs at the department level or above.

Preferred Qualifications     

Preference will be given to candidates who have expertise in bilateral articulation agreements, lifelong learning, community arts, military/university MOU development and implementation, regional consortia.

Academic Affairs is the central division for implementing the mission of the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Through effective academic policies, practices and programs, it provides leadership for excellence in teaching, scholarship and creative work as well as service to local, regional and global communities. The division allocates resources to recruit and retain faculty scholars and to create a learning environment that encourages students.
