President

Claflin University invites applications for President of the University from experienced visionary leaders with an understanding and appreciation for HBCU institutions and the University’s crucial role in providing a holistic, exceptional quality, educational experience for the student profile we serve. Claflin is a private, co-educational institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church, offering a broad range of academic programs in the arts and sciences along with professional curricula at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Claflin’s ninth president will follow a 25-year legacy president. Over the past 25 years, Claflin has moved to contemporary prominence with strong local visibility and national recognition.   Claflin has built a formidable physical plant from very humble origins and grown in enrollment and status faster and more consistently than any other private HBCU in South Carolina. The University has implemented many higher education macro trends as it approaches this leadership transition. New programs for online degrees, adult education, and expanded graduate programs are in effect.

The University has consistently achieved recognition as one of America’s best liberal arts colleges in publications such as U.S. News and World Report, Forbes and Washington Monthly. In 2016, HBCU Digest named Claflin the HBCU of the Year. Claflin is currently ranked 9th in the U.S. News and World Report’s annual ranking of the nation’s top 20 historically black colleges and universities. The next President will lead this University to greater heights of service and recognition.
